Something Practical

Visit me at my new website - anniecrawford.com
I received a great idea a while back from a good friend of mine who was a school teacher. For her toddlers and pre-schooler, she made a month calendar; Each week has a "letter of the week". Then for each day in that week, she listed an activity idea that highlighted the letter of the week. I also like to add a verse to read each day and memorize that begins with the letter.

For example, let this weeks letter be "P". Our verse could be "Praise the Lord". On Monday we will draw big letter "P's" on paper, glue pompoms on it, color it Pink or Puce or Purple and eat Popcorn. Tuesday we will Play my little Pony and Perhaps the Ponies will have a Parade. Wednesday, maybe we will have a Popsicle snack outside while we play with Pinwheels. Thursday I might try something more educational, like reading about Pirates or to be less scary, Plants. Perhaps we will look up flowers that start with the letter "P", like Peonies, Pansies and persimmons. Friday, we will usually try to do something bigger and more fun, perhaps invite friends over for a big Princess Party with Peanut Butter sandwiches and Punch.

I thought this was a very easy, little planning required way of helping to fill the week with more educational, purposeful and fun activities. I haven't done this in a while, but am trying to get myself organized again. I usually brainstormed a few easy activities when I made the grocery list so that I could pick up pompoms or popsicles or whatever I needed without making a special trip.

Just an idea! Hope it helps you think of other ways to pursue creativity, excellence and fun in your mothering.
