Almost Christmas!
Visit me at my new website - anniecrawford.com
It's time to make our Christmas count-down chain! Growing up, July would mark the beginning of my Christmas itch and I would pull out the red and green construction paper to make a Christmas chain to hang around my country pink, goose boardered room. I would dutifully remove one ring each morning until the Big Day. Christmas symbolized everything stable, warm, wonderful and magical about family for me. Two longings structured my year as a child, a longing for summer camp and longing for Christmas.
I just recieved Gooseberry's new Christmas cookbook, and I am itching again to make sweet, fatty treats and Christmas rings. I am the best mother in the world one month a year! :-) This year I am especially excited because I am due with our third baby on Dec. 2nd. What a joy it will be to have a newborn for Christmas! I am determined for him (?) to be in a Christmas play or nativity scene. Of course I will have to be Mary . . . :-) We will find out if it is a boy or not July 19th! I will be sure to let you know.
We attended our 2nd Presby. church yesterday (which I greatly enjoyed) and learned that the church calender is divided into two parts - the semi-anual of the Lord and the semi-anual of the church. The former follows the actions of Christ on earth, beginning with advent and ending with Pentecost (Trinity Sunday). The latter follows the actions of the church. I like that idea very much, seasons of celebrating the Messiah's life on earth. I think my year is personally divided up into anticipating Christmas half the year and then celebrating new life in the spring, and then the enduring of summer heat inspiring me to anticipate the coming refreshment of the Savior again. Winter brings good things. My dark night of the soul is in the summer.

I always feel a sense of elation following June 25, since I know I am closer to the next Christmas than to the preceding. My husband thinks I'm crazy to start counting down in July!
BTW, my bday is 12/14 but don't wait until then to have your baby.
