Begin the Great Battle

Visit me at my new website - anniecrawford.com
We found out Tues. that we will be having a third girl! (I forgot to post about it and even forgot to call my mom until last night!) Tommy was a little disappointed, but he adores his girls and as he adjusts to the shock and humor of God, he is already growing excited. I never really feel pregnant until "it" becomes a he or a her (or always a her!). I just feel sick and fat. Finding out early helps me bond with the baby and feel like it is really there.

Now we can start the Great Name Battle. Warfare goes as such; I suggest many names and he says no to all of them. He suggests no names. Finally there is one he likes ok, and the child is named. Actually with Audrey, we had two names, but one of our friends ruined one. It was "Anya" and he said that little school boys would make rude sexual jokes about it. (I couldn't think of what until he told me but I will leave it up to the reader's imagination.) That made me mad (not at our friend, at little rude boys. Maybe that is why God is not giving me boys!). A perfectly good name ruined. Tommy will never subject his daughter knowingly to such rude teasing. Maybe if we homeschool we could use it?

Other name possibilities . . . . ummmm. yeah. I clean out. I like Abigail but it is my sister's name and Tommy isn't too into the family politics of "you used their family name, what about one of ours now?" Anyway, she may get a name someday!

Given what little I know of the Crawfords, Sophia would be a most appropriate name (or do you already have one?). Blessings to you!

So far our names are "Anya", "Katherine" and I like "Abigail" but Tommy doesn't want to start the politics of using family names (my sister). We also have a trend of using a theological middle name , something greek maybe, so any suggestions for that would be great!

I have enjoyed looking at your blog from time to time. Thanks for the good read.

As far as names goes, we have 1 daughter and 5 sons so we had the same problem, only in reverse. Too many great girl names and only one to use. BTW, today is her birthday!

In retrospect, it seems like the only notable arguments my husband and I have had were over names. Being named Karen, I drifted toward the more uncommon names. But since he grew up with a grandmother-given nickname...Dow...he wanted names that sounded like "Hey can I talk to...fill in the blank....down in shipping?"

    His names won.

The last three boys at my house were going to be Anne Katherine or Annie Grace.

Congratulations. This should get you in to that conference, despite your blogposts.

    Good Calvinistic name: Geneva

Congratulations! I come from an all girl family (except my father, of course). As for names. . . I like my own name, Hannah, and I also like my middle name "Leah" even though my Bible footnotes say Leah means "cow." I like my sister's name "Esther" even though it is a bit old-fashioned.

Is it arrogant to like your own name? I also like "Pearl" but it reminds me of the child in Hawthorne's "Scarlet Letter." I like my Grandmother's name "Edith" too.

My husband have a hard time choosing names that are pronouceable in both Korean and English. All of the names I suggested sound ridiculous in Korean, except Hannah.

Thank you all for the suggestions! It will be helpful. BTW - I would recommend my own name to someone too! I like it, what can I say?!

Tommy really enjoys shooting down my mother's ideas. My mom is a bit "off the wall" in a good way. It is a bonding experience for them to tease each other. Mom suggested "Phoebe" and Tommy about spit his coffee out laughing. They have pretty different tastes!
