Our Daily Smoothie
Visit me at my new website - anniecrawford.com
I have recently learned a bit about the importance of enzymes and eating raw foods. I was already passionat for unprocessed foods, whole grains and limited sugar and now I am trying to incorporate more uncooked foods to maximize the 'live' vitamins and enzymes in my family's diet.
Plus, you can't both eat raw food and processed food, so it helps reinforce my already held health convictions! So every day my kiddos and I drink the following smoothie; my 1 year old wil drink 16 oz a day of it! Just put all the ingredients in the blender (frozen stuff last) and enjoy! ummm, I never measure, so just experiment with the proportions.
Organic Orange juice (If I had a juicer I would buy big bulk bags of oranges and juice them, because store bought juice is all 'cooked'/pasturized)
Organic plain yogurt
small handfull of spinach or romaine
teaspoon of kelp powder (I would use Spirulina if it were cheaper)
bit of honey (sometimes)
1 banana
Frozen Berries and other fruit (I buy big bags of really wonderful frozen strawberries at Sam's Club and alternate in blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, mangos)
Any fresh fruit you have around that needs eaten (mangoes, apples, kiwis, etc.)
Just start with a pinch of the green stuff and then slowly build up to what you can still like and enjoy!

This sounds like our smoothie, except I never add kelp since we eat it almost every day in other forms. I like to add soft tofu too. I've never tried the spinich inside.
As far a raw foods go, my husband and I eat a lot of naturally fermented vegetables, aka kimchi. I think they are about as healthy as you can get

What is kimichi? I have heard ferm. veggies are so good for you. I am a bit afraid of them though. Where do you get it? Do you buy it or make it? My mom recently found pills of dried, fermented veggies that are supposed to retain all the health properties. That sounds easier . . . of course more expensive again!
